SOUTHFIELD -- A Detroit man convicted of stalking a woman has sued her and suburban authorities saying they defamed him.

The Detroit Free Press says Kevin A. Gary is acting as his own lawyer in the suit filed against Harvette Williams, Southfield and Southfield police.  He says the allegations against him were false.

Williams' lawyer, Lawrence Walker, says the move is "very scary" and says she's secured a personal protection order.

The suit was filed in Wayne County Circuit Court, then transferred to neighboring Oakland County, which includes Southfield.

There's no phone listing for Gary in Detroit.

Gary was sentenced to five years in prison in 2005 for aggravated stalking.  Williams says he vandalized her home, followed her to work and church, and called her up to 40 times a day.
