HANCOCK -- The Finnish American Heritage Center has 100 new artifacts on display thanks to a donation from the widow of a New York-based antique collector.

The Veikko Suominen collection provides a glimpse into the life of a man who loved both his native Finland and America.

A majority of the objects are from his family's farm in southwest Finland.

The collection also includes 19th Century ice skates and handmade fishing nets.

"This just about doubles our collection of artifacts," said Archivist Kent Randell.  "We have a large archive collection and a large book collection and right now our focus is broadening our object and artifact collection, so we're very excited to have it."

The artifacts are available for public viewing in the archive reading room during regular business hours at the Heritage Center.
