MARQUETTE -- It's the highest national honor for libraries and museums, and Friday afternoon, representatives from the Peter White Public Library in Marquette were at the White House to accept the National Medal for Museum and Library Service from First Lady Michelle Obama.

The Peter White Public Library was one of five in the country awarded with the honor this year.

Library officials say they were selected for their strong partnerships and lifelong learning programs.

"This is an honor for the whole community, for the city and the township residents that support us because we really could not have done it, seriously could not have done it without all the strong partnerships that we have with individuals, businesses and non-profits that help us really make a difference in the community," said Library Deputy Director Claire Rose.

A plan is scheduled to be in place by next February for how the $10,000 prize will be allocated.
