Responders worked to protect nearby house

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP -- Fire crews responded to a 911 call of a garage engulfed in flames Tuesday morning in Marquette Township.

The fire allegedly started when a resident was performing welding work on a vehicle in the garage and had stepped away.

When the Marquette Township Fire Department arrived at about 7:16 a.m.  The fire had spread to the attic of the owner's house and was threatening another nearby house.

All of the residents were able to get out of the home uninjured before crews arrived.

Responders had contained the fire after about twenty minutes on the scene and worked several hours to completely extinguish it.

There is extensive damage to the garage, home, two vehicles, and a nearby house.

The case is still under investigation.
