MARQUETTE -- The Marquette City Planning Commission may make a decision on the high-rise apartment building project Tuesday.

Friday, project opponents gathered at the Landmark Inn to prepare the points they'll be presenting at that meeting.  They say the project, a six story loft apartment that would be attached to the current Citadel structure, will take away from what the historic district is about and significantly reduce the neighbors' property value.

"Location, location, location, and if your new location is neighboring a six-story brick wall, I don't think that you have a good location anymore," said Job Barch, a resident in Marquette.

"It seems totally out of character with the historic district; it sort of forces itself on the property," said Barb Kelly.

The project architect also attended the meeting to field questions, but declined to comment for TV6.
