MARQUETTE -- Amy Lansburg is originally from Houghton but travels all over the country showing her artwork.  Saturday, she displayed it at the Art on the Rocks event at Marquette’s Lower Harbor.  She loves coming for one simple reason.

"I like the people from the U.P.  I'm a Yooper myself," said Lansburg.

And that's exactly where she draws much of her inspiration...from the U.P.

Lansburg was only one of 190 vendors showing at the event.

The Lake Superior Art Association puts on Art on the Rocks and selects from artists who apply to the show, keeping the event top notch for visitors.

"It's 52 years old; it's a tradition,” said Lake Superior Art Association President Jack Deo.  “A lot of people take their brakes art this time to come to Marquette to see this show, and it grows every year, and it has for 52 years.”

This year organizers are expecting anywhere from 5,000 to 10,000 people to show up.  Proceeds benefit local programs and services that encourage appreciation and participation in the visual arts.

The high quality of artists at the event is a big attraction.

"I love to come down here because you can buy things, and you get to see things that you usually wouldn't see in regular stores," said Marquette resident Luciana Matthews.

And Lansburg agrees, high quality artwork brings high quality artists.

"There are a lot of artists here with national reputations that do shows all over; they do some of the best shows in the country, and they're up in this area,” Lansburg said.  “So this is one of the few times that you'll be able to see people who show at a national level."

Lansburg knows, she's a nationally recognized artist herself.
