MARQUETTE -- Friday afternoon the sounds of drills, hammers and trucks filled downtown Marquette as Superior Bike Fest volunteers set up the race track for this years Twilight Criterium.
"We just closed the street, it's a little past noon said race Co-Director Jim Grundstrom. "That'll give us four hours to get the finish line prepared, the timing equipment ready to go."
This year close to fifty volunteers came out to help with racer registration, concessions and course set up. most of action comes in the way of setting up the track.
"It's a pretty busy day for us", said volunteer Mike Lynch. "It takes about ten to twelve of us probable four hours. It's great we a lot of help from the community, it's a great race."
The weather for the first five Bike Fests have been near perfect, this year however, the threat of rain loomed and made for some extra work for the volunteers said Grundsrom, "We're gunna bag some things to make sure that the sound systems still work if it does rain."
When the last biker crossed the finish line Friday night these guys went right back to work tearing down the track. "Racing will be done by about 10:30" says Grundstrom. "We'll take down all the banners down, the street will be cleaned by midnight."
And they get to do it all over again for Saturdays Road Races.
