ALGER COUNTY -- An Escanaba woman is expected to recover after being run over by a snowmobile on Sunday.

According to the State Police, it happened in the early morning hours while two sleds were traveling down Cold Springs Road in Alger County.

Two people were thrown from a snowmobile after the driver, a 20-year-old Escanaba woman, hit a snowdrift.  The snowmobile behind them, driven by a 26-year-old Trenary man, drove over the woman as she lay on the ground.

She was taken to Marquette General for treatment.  She sustained injury to her ribs and vertebrae, and has a punctured liver and lung.

The second driver was arrested for an OWI and was taken to the Alger County jail.

Names are being withheld at this time.
