Peter White Public Library will host an event that provides an in-depth look at the history of the UP 200.
MARQUETTE -- This event has been cancelled due to inclement weather, it may be rescheduled for a later date.
The year 1880 was the year of the first recorded sled dog race in Marquette, and in 2010 the event has accumulated a rich history.
Tuesday, the Peter White Public Library in Marquette will host an event that provides an in-depth look at the history of the UP 200 and Midnight Run.
The program will be titled "Going to the Dogs" and will be presented by the Marquette County Historical Society Museum. The evening will outline the history of mushing from the origins in Alaska to the UP 200 and Midnight Run.
"There is a lot involved in putting the event on; there's a lot of people involved, and we just wanted to give the public a feel for what it takes to put on this great event and the history of it," said event host Scott Zerbel.
There is a five dollar suggested donation that will benefit the Marquette County Historical Society Museum.
