MARQUETTE -- The Marquette County History Museum held its annual meeting at the Landmark Inn Thursday night.

One of the highlights was an awards presentation for those who have contributed to preserving local history.

Awards were handed out to a variety of people and organizations in Marquette.

Gwinn High School 11th grader, Senara Dollar, was awarded the exclusive Young Historian Award for writing an essay about the historic home she grew up in.

"I was so excited.  I was home and nobody was home, so I just started calling people because I was, like, oh my gosh, I can't believe this just happened," said Dollar when asked about getting word on her award.

Senara was awarded $500 for her efforts.

Adult winners will receive their name on plaques that will be displayed in the new museum, set to open in December.  Receiving the Helen Longyear Paul Award was Loraine Koski, as well as Lake Superior Theatre, which was honored with the Peter White Award.
