Around 30 officers respond to a home on Maple Hill Drive in Forsyth Township.
FORSYTH TOWNSHIP -- UPDATED 7:11 p.m.
A ten hour standoff in Gwinn ended peacefully on Wednesday after the suspect walked out of his home with his hands up and surrendered.
The suspect was taken into custody around 5 p.m. and transferred to Marquette General Hospital for a mental evaluation.
The adult man, whose name has not been released by police, could face criminal charges stemming from the incident. He allegedly pointed a gun at the Chief of Police in Forsyth Township Wednesday morning. He also allegedly threatened to kill his best friend.
Police say the incident was fueled by a change in the suspect's medication. Officers had visited the home at 526 North Maple Hills Drive a few times in the week prior to the standoff. The situation on Wednesday started when the suspect called 9-1-1 stating that he needed help.
"When I responded to the house on the initial 9-1-1 call, he pointed the handgun at me and asked me to leave his property," said Chief Tim Rector.
After the Forsyth Township Police Chief and two deputies with the Marquette County Sheriff's Department made several phone calls to the suspect and used a megaphone to try and coax him from the home, they called on the Michigan State Police Emergency Response Team.
Troopers on the SERT team started to arrive after lunch, and six troopers from lower Michigan were flown in to K.I. Sawyer later in the afternoon.
Police say the situation is surprising because the man doesn't have a history of being aggressive.
