ADAMS TOWNSHIP -- Icy roads may be to blame for a fatal two-car crash in Adams Township Wednesday morning.

Forty-two-year-old William Karinen of Painesdale was killed when he lost control of his car while driving on M-26 north, outside of South Range and collided with an oncoming vehicle just after 9:30 a.m.

A 13-year-old passenger had to be extricated from the vehicle and was taken to Portage Health to be treated.

The other driver, 28-year-old Justin Marier of South Range, was also taken to Portage Health where he was treated and released.

Police say both vehicles were "extensively damaged" and that Karinen was not wearing a seat belt.

The road remained closed for several hours while reconstructionists investigated and cleared the scene.
