KBIC votes in tribal council election

Four of five incumbents re-elected.

BARAGA -- The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community re-elected Bradley Dakota as its Chief Judge Saturday.  Dakota beat out Paul Smith 336 to 135 votes for the three year term.

Making it to the tribal council in the Baraga District, incumbents Warren “Chris” Swartz Jr. (273 votes) and Jerry Lee Curtis (229 votes) defeated Debbie Parrish (205 votes) and Donny Shalifore, Sr. (190 votes).

In the L'Anse district, Eddy Michael Edwards (294 votes) and incumbent Susan LaFernier (271 votes) were elected to the tribal council.  They beat out JoAnne Racette (177 votes) and incumbent Jennifer Misegan (159 votes).

The two from each district will also serve three year terms on the tribal council.
