ONTONAGON -- Ontonagon has won the nationwide Kaboom and NFL Play 60 online contest, and that means they'll soon be getting $10,000 to buy playground equipment for their elementary school.
Ontonagon placed first in the online voting. Brusly, Louisiana, which placed second, will also get the playground money. Originally, there were more than 1000 applicants for the award.
To qualify, Ontonagon had to first organize a day of play and community improvement, which it managed to do with just a few days of preparation.
Baltimore Ravens fullback Le'ron McCalin picked Ontonagon as one of the five finalists, and then online voters, viewing the Ontonagon video on the Kaboom Web site, did the rest.
Ontonagon has a particular need for the equipment because the elementary school kids are moving to the high school next year, and they'll need playground equipment appropriate for their age.
