(AP) -- EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Michigan State Police troopers will be looking for drunken drivers during increased traffic patrols this Thanksgiving weekend. Troopers say they will be watching for unsafe driving during a period that begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday and runs through Sunday. Authorities seek to reduce the number of crashes during the holiday period, which last year resulted in the death of 13 people in nine crashes. Seven of those crashes involved alcohol.

The enforcement effort is part of a national initiative known as Operation CARE, which stands for Combined Accident Reduction Effort. Operation CARE started in 1977 as a joint program between Michigan and Indiana state police.

We would have any drunk drivers ever if we could just shoot all the wolves.
Have a safe holiday everybody :)

Is This Really Necessary?

In the entire state, 9 accidents last year, 7 involve alcohol. So this BIG crackdown is geared toward 7 people in the entire state, for a four day weekend. Sounds like overkill to me (and a lot of overtime). Trying to trim the number from 7 is kinda like trying to loose 5 pounds when you only weigh 90 to begin with. Not much need to do so. No matter how many officers are out there, they are not going to make it perfect. I say save the overtime on these few and hire a regular, everyday, patrolman to help EVERYDAY instead of overkill on our Holidays.
