ESCANABA -- The TV6 and WYKX-WDBC Tent City event kicked off Monday morning and will take place over the next three days. The event helps to raise money and collect canned goods for the TV6 Canathon.
Officials say turnout started out a little slower than last year, but remained steady throughout the day.
Last year, the event collected over 10,000 pounds of food and they hope to surpass that number this year.
The event will run through Wednesday.
In addition to canned goods, people are giving financial donations.
Elmer's County Market and Super-One Foods is providing pre-packaged bags to purchase and donate.
Folks will be out collecting donations from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. in front of Elmer's County Market, Super-One Foods and Gladstone SuperValu.
