Why do those civil rights groups and racial fanatics squawk about discrimination and something like this happens?

Fort Hood is a city itself

What you call a secure military post is incorrect. Ft Hood is a city itself, with many roads leading onto the post. Only certain areas are restricted areas. There are several thousand military and civilians who live off and work on base, there are also thousands of vendors who come and go onto this base to deliver necessary supplies. This is no different then it happening in Marquette. What should surprise you is that the shooter was a Officer and a so called Gentlemen and a Doctor. The only way you will "secure" military bases is to do a 100% check of id's and verify them to access list. This would criple the Fort and would require armed guards at every access road. Could the Marquette Police and Sheriff's Dept secure Marquette in that matter? I guesse what I'm trying to say is that you cant say because it is a military base that it is secure and if you think it is then you need to go visit a large military installation and see for yourself.

so sad

No one can control the acts of others. Why would anyone suspected that this person was going to take out a gun and start firing. He was one of them, and direct harm could not be seen by anyone. HE took advantage of his career and oppurtunity to position himself to carry out his crimes. The only way to have stopped this would have been to read his mind. my prayers and thoughts go out to all of the families involved in this terrible crisis. May God be with now in this time of suffering.

No Surprise

I lived at Ft Hood between 2002 and 2007. Security on post was high when I first got there. You had to have a DOD sticker, and military ID to enter, plus they did random vehicle checks where you would have to pull over and they would check every inch of your car including underneath. The checks after 9/11 we done by soldiers and referred to as Gate Guard Duty. in 2005/06 they hired a security company to guard the gates. You would pull up to them, hand them your Id, they check for your sticker and you are on your way on to post. Shortly after they installed a pass that all you had to do was scan a card with a chip in it and it showed your information on the screen for the guard. If you did not have a sticker you had to stop and get a pass at the visitors center. Now Im not sure what all had to be done if you didnt have and ID but I know it was still easy to get a pass if you did. I dont know how many times I went on post with a sticker that was worn off by my windshield wipers so there was no way they could be checking the information correctly. So no it does not surprise me at all that something happened like this on post, let alone in the Killeen area, it is not the first time, in Oct 1991 a man killed 24 people at a Luby's cafeteria in Killeen, and Im sure there are others.
