LANSING (AP) -- The Michigan State Police is recalling 55 state troopers who had been laid off this summer to save money.

The state police director, Col. Peter Munoz, said Thursday in a release that just over half of the 100 troopers laid off June 28 would be back on the job starting by Nov. 16.

A spokeswoman for Gov. Jennifer Granholm had said Wednesday the state budget office needed a week to 10 days to go over the State Police budget the governor signed last week to make sure enough money was available to keep the troopers on the job.

Munoz says the state Treasury Department has confirmed there's enough money to rehire the troopers.

The state will have 1,000 troopers assigned to state police posts with the rehirings.
