NEGAUNEE -- A 2010 budget for the City of Neguanee was finalized Thursday night. It was a long, difficult process, according to council members.
The board unanimously approved eliminating the $100,000 for grant matches, a Washington advocate, and D.C. trip. That money, plus nearly $368,000 from the electric department ,will go to replenish the general fund, and $150,000 from the fire hall fund was moved to the Croix Street renovation.
"Most people want core services maintained at the level. My position; I also believe that how you go about that. I disagree a little bit. I think you need economic development, you need families to move to Negaunee," said Negaunee resident, George Sedlacek.
The budget will be officially approved at the regular city commission meeting next Thursday night.
