ESCANABA -- The former Escanaba High School hockey coach facing sex crime charges against children pleaded guilty to all four counts Thursday.

Ward Johnsen, 46, pleaded guilty to aggravated indecent exposure, attempted accosting of children for immoral purposes, attempted use of computers to commit a crime, and attempted distribution of sexual explicit visual or verbal matter to children.

Johnsen explained in court that in February of 2008, he conducted inappropriate sexual behavior over the Internet using a web-cam and tried to encourage a minor under the age of 16 to take inappropriate photos.

The charges are not felonies, but carry a maximum two year prison term.

Johnsen's sentencing is scheduled for January 5.

Two sides to every story

As the last poster indicates....two sides to every story.

But with teacher pleading guilty, it appears that the side of the story that includes him not doing anything inappropriate is out the window. Kind of sounds like he is admitting responsibility for his inappropriate actions with the guilty plea.

Hey Just Sayin - you don't "give the benefit of the doubt" to someone who pleads guilty. So, your comment makes no sense at all.

There's always two sides of every story. Maybe you people should be giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Should be a Felony

This is garbage, how can what this creep did not be a felony?!?! This guy should be locked up for a minimum of 25 years. Any teacher/coach or anyone in a position of authority over kids should be viewed in a different light, these kids trusted this man, and what he did is aplorable!!!

unfortunate

I first want to say how bad i feel for the victims, the worst hit im sure are this mans wife and family and if he has children what they are haveing to deal with. But in all honesty these should not be misdemeanor offenses........just the fact he was a teacher and a coach, he was in a position of authority and should have been an example and not a predator. So make an example of the man, finally. Put him away and send the message to other potential predators_____- if u cant control your urges, seek help, please dont mess with children or their future mental health as well as physical well being.
