MARQUETTE -- Environmental issues are the topic at a film festival that will happen this week in Marquette.
Eight films will be shown. One is a short film about kayaking into the wilds of Papua New Guinea.
The films will cover other topics like organic gardening and wilderness preservation.
It gets started at 6:30 p.m. both Thursday and Friday in Jamrich 103 on NMU's campus. Tickets for both nights are $15 and $10 for one night.
Since nothing like this has happened in Marquette before, organizers believe a film festival is a fun, new way to look at the issues.
"It's a new perspective for people to take with environmental issues," explained Emily Whittaker of the Yellow Dog Watershed Preserve. "It can be a fun thing. It doesn't have to be a doom and gloom thing. You don't have to be an environmentalist to care what happens with the planet."
