MANISTIQUE -- There are some “spooktakular” activities taking place on Range Street in Manistique this weekend. One local couple has completely transformed their yard into a Halloween town, which draws hundreds of Trick-or-Treaters each year.
The owners of the spook house located on 602 "DeRanged" Street say it's more than your average haunted house. From a haunted "boo-ffet" with interesting hors d'oeuvres to a stroll through "Lake Eerie," there are plenty of sites to tickle your spine. And it's taken weeks to prepare.
"We started a little early," explained homeowner, Chery Trudell. "Normally we start the first week in October and this time we started about the middle of September."
This Halloween collection combines over 20 years worth of decorations, but it wasn't always so big. The idea actually started from a pile of dirt...literally.
"We had bought a house and we needed to have the front yard dug up to have some plumbing work done and I told my husband, well it looks like a cemetery, so we might as well decorate it like one, and that's how it all got started and it just grew and grew into this," Trudell said.
The haunted festivities draw over 600 Trick-or-Treaters each year, including a few people from out of town.
Although the lights may be on, the haunted house won't officially open its doors until the Trick-or-Treaters come out Saturday evening.
And there are more than just some scary props to spook the Trick-or-Treaters.
"We got about six or seven people coming in for Trick-or-Treat day itself," explained homeowner, Calvin Trudell. "We have a ghost, a couple witches and I can't forget about Frankenstein, a live Frankenstein. It just adds to little more to the decorations, the liveness of it."
And while the owners say it’s fun to be creative, their greatest satisfaction comes in seeing the young ghouls and goblins having a good time on Halloween.
