MARQUETTE -- After Halloween, do you end up throwing away any of your kids' candy?
If so, there's a way you can make money for it instead.
Washington Dental located at 760 W, Washington Street, will be buying back extra candy the day after Halloween on Sunday, November 1 from 1 to 3pm for $1 per pound.
All of the candy will then be sent to soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Excess candy and sugar consumption can lead to tooth decay.
Dentists also say that it can lead to hyperactivity and obesity.
"Bring the candy to us. We'll put it to good use," says Brett Goymerac of Washington Dental. "Trade their candy for cash and maybe we can help their teeth and help out our troops at the same time."
This is the first year the program is being done in the UP.
The original idea came from a dentist in Wisconsin a few years ago.
