NEGAUNEE -- Honey and cinnamon.  It's unconventional, to say the least, but if it will help ward off illness, why not try it?

It's believed that the mixture of honey and cinnamon can help reduce your chances of getting sick.

Lakeview Elementary in Negaunee is going to try the home remedy on their students.

Food service workers were already planning meals to include the combination.

"Well, according to all the information that I read, it's supposed to be very good for the immune system, to build it up," says Food Service Director Hazel Blandford.  "And with all the flu, swine flu, that's going around, I just thought it'd be one way of helping the kids stay healthier."

Blandford plans to start adding honey and cinnamon to the student's toast at breakfast.

That honey pictured in the news article is from China! Double check all of your food purchases to see where it comes from! Iy's not even all honey, so buyer beware and support the worlds best producer of ALL foods!

Awesome! Good for Negaunee!

It's about time we hear about some natural remedies instead of the chemical-laden pharmaceuticals from greedy corporations. Nice job!

Methods like this build up your immune system naturally and if it's strong enough you won't need the toxic vaccines/antibiotics that are manufactured.

that sounds good and all, but i hope they make sure there are no children with allergic reactions to anything they try. i have heard from rn's and doctors another way to help is to drink hot liquids. the h1n1 can not survive once it is washed down to the stomach with hot liquids. also garggling with salt water or listerine, an cotton swabbing the nose with salt water will help eliminate the growth of the h1n1 bug. just a thought from way down here.

Something to consider

It would help some. Honey and cinnamon are good for sore throat and coughing. Cinnamon helps with congestion and also helps with digestion(vomiting & diarhea) and honey coats and has a slight antiviral effect on the throat. Alot of natural herbal remedies are antiviral such as garlic, echinacea, goldenseal, olive leaf, and many more. Vitamen C produces natural interferon. Its good to boost the immune system so your body can better fight off infections. A garlic a day keeps the Dr away for many reasons. :)

I can see it coming...
