MARQUETTE -- History is on the move in Marquette County.
Today board members of the Marquette County History Museum broke ground for a new facility on Spring Street in Marquette.
The new building will have larger research facilities, a classroom, reception area, a larger museum store, a parking lot, and will be ADA accessible.
"We're a small staff, a dedicated community group, and here we are today and we've raised $2.3 million, and we're breaking ground on this wonderful project, and I think it says a lot about the value that this community places on a local history," said Museum Executive Director Kaye Hiebel.
Construction began immediately after the ceremony Monday morning.
The museum is expected to be completed in the fall of 2010.
Hiebel says the current museum will close for a few months in order to complete the exhibit transfer and installation.
