IRON MOUNTAIN -- The parking lot of the First United Methodist Church in Iron Mountain was converted into a car maintenance area on Saturday.

Trinity, Quinnesec, and Iron Mountain United Methodist churches helped change the oil, wiper blades, and detail 40 cars.

The churches held the free Car Care Clinic to help single moms and low-income families.

The customer provided the air filter and wipers, while the churches provided the oil and handiwork.

"This came up as one of the things we could do," said organizer Bud DeLong.

"It's a good idea," said Gary Skowlund of Norway.  "It helps the community and people who have trouble with money at times."

Church members say it saves customers at least $25 on an oil change.
