CHOCOLAY TWP. -- More information has been released Friday morning on a three vehicle accident in Chocolay Township Thursday night.

Police say William Kolpack of Harvey was backing his pick-up truck with a trailer attached into his driveway on US-41.  An on-coming driver didn't see it.

That driver, Frances Larrabee of Rapid River, hit the trailer and was then hit by a pickup truck driven by Michael Lloyd-Lee of Harvey.

Larrabee was the only one injured in the accident.  She was taken to Marquette General and later released.

Police say Kolpack will be cited for impeding traffic.

Might want to get the full story

For those who are feeling the need to put in their 2 cents worth. You may want to get the full story before you post.

1. trailer that was being backed into driveway had no lights on it.

2. it was late in the evening (approx 7:15), and raining

3. another driver not even listed in the story went into a ditch in an effort to avoid the trailer

4. Larrabee was unable to stop in time and hit the trailer

5. driver behind Larrabee rearended Larrabee

Well now......sounds like the driver backing wasn't as spotless as some might think.

Consider all the fact

Not only did larrabee hit the trailer, but someone hit her also. The person controlling the trailer must have done somethig wrong for 2 people to not see it. Maybe the lights weren't working in accordance to law. That would be illegal. I am sure there was something more to the story as to why the person pulling the trailer was ticketed. You probably should get all the facts before spouting off on whether or not the correct person was held responsible.

Chocolay Cops are wrong

Posted by Middle Aged College Student, Sands Township - Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 9:19 p.m.

Why is it if driver A gets rear ended by driver B, driver normally B gets ticketed for following too close, failure to stop, driving too fast or something like that. But put a trailer behind driver A, and all of a sudden it becomes his fault that he got hit by driver B??

Mr Kolpach has a right to access his property. If there is not ample room to turn the trailer around on his property, he must back his trailer in. Either that or pull it straight into the driveway and later on, back it out onto the highway. It's one way or the other. The Chocolay police need to apply a little bit of common sense and consistancy in application of the law. It would appear that in this situation, it is something they are failing to do.

Based on common sense & precedence, Ms. Larrabee should be the one getting the ticket, not Mr. Kolpack.

Wonder if the driver who ran into the trailer was on a cell phone?

What a joke

There has to be certain consideration for people who live with a driveway on the highway. Obviously the person who hit it was not paying attention.

my opinion

The truck did'nt cause the accident-the blind person did.

charges

Wait... they're going to charge the guy for parking his trailer instead of the driver who WASNT PAYING ATTENTION AND RAN INTO SOMETHING IN THE ROAD?!
