Friday, October 16, 2009, 23 Michigan Democrats and Republicans introduced a "Personhood" amendment into the state's House of Representatives.

The measure would define a "person" as someone who's life begins at conception.

It would essentially outlaw abortion in Michigan.

Supporters include Jim Slezak (D)-Davison, Paul Scott (R)-Grand Blanc, and Jeff Mayes (D)-Bay City.

These law-makers want the issue brought to a general election ballot.

REALLITY CHECK - What does a miscariage have to do with an abortion? That is very insensitive of you to even compare the two.

Why do you feel abortion should be used as a method of birth control?

Deal with it

You have sex, you get pregnant, you deal with the consequences. Life begins at conception. When a woman goes in for her 10 week appt you get to listen to the heart beat of the unborn child. They have BEATING HEARTS! They are all living beings, just like us only they have a different environment. Why do you think people who murder pregnant women get charged with murder twice. Because they killed TWO PEOPLE!!!

"Reality" needs an intervension

“An embryo is not a human being.” Then when, pray tell, is a person a “human being.” Does a magic fairy fly by, wave her magic wand, and “poof” we have a human! Life begins at conception, ask any credible scientist.

A natural miscarriage, and a doctor ripping a baby apart are two different things. If you can’t see the difference, visit your local Planned Parenthood office and you can see for yourself. You’ll never be the same.

Why are you assuming all children that would be spared from abortion will be on Medicaid and food stamps? Is there any chance they may not need those services because they could be self-sustaining? Why are you assuming they won’t be?

Clearly, money means more to you than the lives of others. You blast Republicans with that same charge. Are you a Republican? Normally, people call that “greedy.” What do you call it?

And to clarify, there are no “unwanted children.” You may not want them, but someone else does.

Reality needs some checking

Holy cow, reality check, cut back on the coolaid, your true colors are showing through and your losing any credibility you MAY have had. You are jabbing at those you say are trying to push their beliefs on you, yet that is EXACTLY what you are doing! What always amazes me is that no one ever wants to talk about personal respondsibility, you know the ones having the sex in the first place? huh...

An embryo is not a human being.

I wonder, will they outlaw miscarriages then? That's considered to be abortion as well.

Are you willing to pay more in taxes to support all these new potential children? ARe you willing to support more taxes to keep programs such as Medicaid, Food Stamps, and revamp the DHS so that it gives money to these new parents so that they can buy diapers for these new children? Are you willing to pay more in property taxes to create more schools and hire more teachers for these children?

Your comment is that its not about the money. Yes, it is. Children cost money. More unwanted children cost even more money. How many children are already here in this state in Foster Care? How many more will be abused and neglected?

Its not your decision to determine who is a parent. But perhaps you should have to have a license in order to procreate. An intelligence test should be administered and anyone who voted Republican more than once in their life time, is prohibited from becoming parents.

Why are all these people's arguments off of the subject - lets stay on track people and talk about the children, not about your money or inconveniences.

Nothing better to do with our money

Gee, I wonder who will be paying for all of these children? Not only will we have to worry about getting and keeping our jobs, paying for our homes (IF we can afford to keep them), insurances, HEALTH INSURANCE, and feeding our families...we will also have to feed, clothe, and shelter how many other peoples kids?
I agree with Reality Check in MQT - "who ever is left in Michigan, turn out the lights."

Why?

Why do this? After all this time, have they forgotten what it was like before Roe V Wade? To have to go back to that denial that it's happening, the horrors of the reality when it goes wrong and the shame that is spread around the entire community would be sad, to say the least. It would be a huge blow backwards for women and their right to decide their own medical care. It's quite telling that most of the sponsors of this are men. I'm sure if it was them who had to carry a child, no matter the consequences, they would be singing a different tune.

Not your decision

When Men can get pregnant and carry a fetus to term, than you get the right to determine how long you carry your pregnancy.

This is just one way that the pro-life movement wants to control women and bring back the dark ages, of no contraception. Just say no, and vote ALL THESE IDIOTS OUT OF OFFICE.

These people may be pro-life, while in utero, but as soon as its born, these are the same ones who vote to cut off funding for all programs for poor families.

The Rich will still continue to get their abortions, as they always have. The poor won't have any choice in Michigan. That's one way to make sure that most of the intelligent members of society leave the dark ages of Michigan.

Who's ever left in Michigan...turn off the lights.

YES!
