GREAT LAKES -- Major funding for Michigan and the Great Lakes was announced Thursday by Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow.

More than $88 million for energy and water development will be available.

Some specific grants include:

  • $300,000 for Gogebic Community College for energy efficiency.
  • $969,000 for the construction of a new lock at the Soo.
  • $727,000 for the Negaunee wastewater system.
  • $37,000 for dredging of the Keweenaw Waterway.
  • Over $1 million for the Ontonagon Harbor.
  • Almost $22 million for locks maintenance and operations on the St. Mary's River.
