UPPER PENINSULA -- It wasn't exactly a snowstorm, but it was the first strong hint that winter is on the way.

Snow fell across the U.P. on Tuesday morning, causing a flurry of accidents on the roads.  Several of them occurred on US-41 in western Marquette County, along with a couple of them on M-553.

Across much of the U.P., between one and two inches of snow fell in the morning hours.  In some places it stuck, but the morning sun and rising temperatures melted much of it.

Greenland, in Ontonagon County, reported four inches of snow overnight, and Bark River reported 3.5 inches of snow.
