UPPER PENINSULA -- The first snowflakes of the season have arrived.
Although we're just into fall, it felt and looked more like winter at times on Saturday across the entire U.P.
Along M-28 in Marquette County, motorists were greeted with big, white flurries, but with the high temperature lingering around 40 degrees, the white stuff didn't have much of a chance to stick to the ground. That was also the case in Florence, Wisconsin.
Meteorologists say this type of weather isn't that unusual for this time year. However, up in the Copper Country, the snow was occasionally falling fast and hard.
As of Saturday morning, Calumet had collected two inches.
The weather may have been annoyance to some at the Michigan Tech football game, but players continued to run the ball.
Accumulating snow in Houghton County is ahead of schedule by about a week. October 18 is the average date for accumulating snow in the area.
Both Houghton and Keweenaw Counties are under a winter weather advisory Saturday night.
