MUNISING -- Most cities are designed around roadways, but there's an organization traveling around the U.P. to get people walking again.

The organization, Walkable Communities, wants to reclaim Munising for pedestrians.

After performing an audit of the area, Sault Tribe Health and other Munising officials met to discuss how problem areas can be fixed.

The streetlight on M-28, experts say, is already a good start.  The idea is to improve foot traffic around downtown areas and improve economic stability for the future.

"Economics of our country is going to be based on how well we design places, how well it's designed for human activity, for people to know one another," said Dan Burden of Walkable Communities.  "That's where the young businesses are settling into places that are designed for people first."

Walk

I live in Mqt so it's easier to walk to work, the store, class and downtown. I love being able to walk everywhere. It's healthy, inexpensive and good for the enviroment. More people should get out and do it.
