MARQUETTE -- Members of Northern Michigan University's Military Science department came together to honor a fallen soldier in a special dedication ceremony Saturday morning.

Lieutenant Kip Taylor was killed in the line of duty during the 9/11 attacks.

Taylor was a Northern Michigan University alumnus and received many service awards including the Legion of Merit and the Purple Heart.

Friends, family members, and fellow soldiers hosted a ceremony to dedicate a plaque for Taylor on Veteran's Rock near the University Center.

For the soldiers, it was a great way to unite the community and remember a dear friend.

"He was what you'd call an all-around great guy, student, athlete, leader--what you would call the total package," said professor Maj. Kyle Rambo.  "He was just an incredible individual and he made the choice to serve his country."

The Military Science department held the ceremony in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of Northern's ROTC program.
