Field Neurosciences Institute (FNI) announces a major acceleration in its research efforts. Looking with hope to the future, FNI is using reprogrammed adult stem cells in seeking a cure, or at least a treatment, for disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, Huntington’s disease, degenerative disc disease, and stroke. “Helping the millions of people suffering from neurological disorders is the inspiration for our research. It was the motivation for Dr. E. Malcolm Field, Medical Director of FNI, to establish the Institute in 1988,” states Dr. Gary Dunbar, Executive Director of FNI.
According to Dr. Dunbar, the research laboratory at Towne Centre Road in Saginaw Township focuses on ways to transform adult stem cells into more therapeutically viable cells by inserting certain genes into them that will allow them to become any type of cell.
As the cutting-edge research at the FNI lab grows, so does the need for more sophisticated equipment and supplies. It is for that reason FNI is presenting its fall fundraiser, Field of Hope. Proceeds will be used to purchase a flow cytometer, a state-of-the-art cell-sorting apparatus that will “jump start” the research progress by months or even years.
By popular demand, Raymond Saar and Diane Ketchie representing The Best of Broadway will return to present their popular program, You Raise Me Up. This year they will be joined by Laurie Gayle Stephenson and Steve Amerson. Patrons will hear the world’s most beautiful music as the group salutes many celebrated voices from Josh Groban and Andrea Bocelli to Sarah Brightman and Celine Dion. Expect to hear “Climb Every Mountain,” “The Impossible Dream,” “This Is The Moment,” and “You Raise Me Up,” to name a few songs.
Hope is what the Great Lakes Bay Region needs today, and FNI is pleased to present Field of Hope on September 25 at the Temple Theatre in Saginaw. For further information, please call 989-497-3117.
