IRON MOUNTAIN -- Eleven airplanes and 80 people from the Michigan and Wisconsin Civil Air Patrol wrapped up their weekend of training exercises in Dickinson County.
The group is a part of the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary and deals primarily with search and rescue efforts for missing planes.
Over the weekend, they practiced emergency scenarios using state-of-the-art equipment. They say the Upper Peninsula is the perfect place to practice.
"For us, it's very different to fly up in this area because the terrain is very different," says Captain Mike Sandstrom of the Civil Air Patrol. "It's all wooded and you can imagine finding an airplane in the woods here, because of all the tree coverage."
After air and ground exercises were complete, each member was debriefed before heading back home.
