All I can say is: If giving off a little (or not so little) RANT keeps you from climbing a bell tower with a high-powered rifle (and it's NOT even deer season), then it's well worth it! AND to be PI, God Bless ya!!

Fed up with Birds

Posted by Gladys Phelps, Arheim - Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at 11:41 a.m.

I've spent hundreds of dollars on birdseed to feed the birds. I also provide a birdbath, a feeder with a roof so the birds can get out of the winter wind and rain while they eat. I'm getting fed up with cleaning bird droppings especially on the feeders. I was told my a respected ornithologist that birds don't defecate where they eat but this is proving not to be true. Also I don't apprecitae the birds flying into the windows as bloody feathers and matter is hard to remove with Windex.

I hate Charmin

Posted by B Jingles, alone on the AAA Road - Monday, October 19, 2009 at 12:08 p.m.

The 2 ply paper is so thin that it breaks when ordinary wiping is engaged in. I don't know how many times I've needlessly had to wash my hands after wiping because of the poor tensile strength of the paper. I'd upgrade to 4 ply but am trying to pinch pennies!

don't like

Posted by b e, mano - Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 7:21 p.m.

the new channel 14! All it is now is OLD/RE-RUN movies. Just what we needed/more re-runs and cable keeps going up. I would'nt complain but with a zillion NEW movies, why can't you show them? I miss Springer/Maury. At least it was good for some laughs!

zip lock croc

Posted by zoozy Q, negaunee - Sunday, September 13, 2009 at 10:49 p.m.

Another pkg gripe: easy open/resealable pkgs that dont rip open where they should and then you cant use the zip lock! And if you cut it with scissors you have to cut it unevenly, (most of the time the ziplock doesnt open anyway)...and easy open? are they kidding me? I could get a hernia trying to open some pkgs...

GRIP BUT DO NOT RIP

Posted by R K, ISHPEMING - Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 1:38 a.m.

Chip bags are also hard to open, but if you grip each side of the bag under the seal and pull it apart it opens easier than ripping it.Try it you will like it.If you do not eat them all,get a clothsline pin from the line to seal it with...

Regarding Cookies

Posted by Yooper Chick, UP - Friday, September 11, 2009 at 6:05 p.m.

Here's a spin off from the cookie/graham cracker complainers. Why do they put 2 Pop Tarts in a package? My kids only want 1 at a time, and then the other one is left in the open package to dry out. They should package them as singles, or better yet, put the whole works in one resealable bag!

Loving this Rant

Posted by Elizabeth Peterson, FOX UP Studio - Friday, September 11, 2009 at 8:10 a.m.

Okay you guys... I'm loving this rant about cookie packaging... call it in! It's great. How many times have we all struggled with boxes and packages, trying to get to the goodness inside!! Call me! 475-4161, ext. 222.

Hugs to "Cookie Dunker"

Posted by Milk Drinker Wannabe, UP - Thursday, September 10, 2009 at 10:45 p.m.

Hugs to "Cookie Dunker"....I feel your pain~! Here I sit, near to tears with frustraion, with a plate of homemade cookies in front of me. Alack and alas! I cannot get this slip of plastic off of the chocolate milk container. Oh, how I long for the days when milk was delivered in glass bottles! The days of innocent youth when we had no reason to be concerned that some ill-intentioned soul would contaminate our food supply! In those days, nary a day passed without cookie and milk meeting in that time-honored ritual of 'dunking'.
(sigh)

horrible packaging

Posted by cookie dunker, republic - Wednesday, September 09, 2009 at 9:16 p.m.

This really ticks me off. Here I am trying to get the graham crackers open and it is next to impossible. What is with that? Cant someone figure a better way? I end up ripping the package . How are you supposed to close the dumb things? We need resealable pkg. for our crackers!!!

Thanks for the comments, don't forget to call!

Posted by Elizabeth Peterson, FOX UP Studio - Wednesday, September 09, 2009 at 8:28 a.m.

Hi everyone! I'm enjoying all the comments, even those that aren't too sure about the rant and FOX UP. I just want to remind all of you to call the nightly rant line, 475-4161 ext. 222. The newscast launched last night! I had a really good time and I'm excited to offer another news outlet for people to turn to. But, I want to hear from you. Last night we had someone rant about garbage bags. Rant about anything!

Thanks again and I look forward to hearing from you!

I meant T Phelps, not SW!

Posted by Craig K, Chassell - Tuesday, September 08, 2009 at 4:32 p.m.

My apologies, SW! I meant to direct my previous post against T Phelps, not you.

For the record: I agree with SW and disagree with T Phelps, who I think needs to take a critical look at himself/herself.

SW: Look in the Mirror!

Posted by Craig K, Chassell - Tuesday, September 08, 2009 at 4:29 p.m.

SW, the only one here preaching a noxious brew of divisiveness and hate is YOU! You liberals are a piece of work. You absolutely go bonkers over facts. Do you know why you hate Rush so much? It's because you know he's telling the truth, but you just can't handle the truth. It drives you insane! I suggest you take a long, critical look at yourself in the mirror.

MSHS Football Program

Posted by Football Program Ridiculous?, Marquette, MI - Tuesday, September 08, 2009 at 2:57 p.m.

I agree with you Remembering Better. I was at every game last year and the two this year. The coach has 4 offensive plays and can't get a full team together. I don't know how he can expect his quarterback to come back in the 4th quarter and win a game when he has never left the field. Almost every player on the field for the offense is out for the defense and special teams. There have already been injuries. And the most likely cause is that they can't even get off the field to get a drink of water. It's no wonder they have not scored any points. It was a mistake to make it "Pay to Play". No one will play for this coach and I can understand why.

MSHS Football Program

Posted by Remembering Better , Years - Tuesday, September 08, 2009 at 11:47 a.m.

Can we talk about this? There will be no colleges scouting here, but this hard working, dedicated team shows up for every practice. Even the quarterback, #3, who is not only quarterback but also punter and plays on the defensive line - yes, the whole game along with other players. Why has the athletic department at MSHS not evaluated what we all know is going on here.

What about cheap cable

Posted by AJ in Gwinn, Gwinn - Tuesday, September 08, 2009 at 8:11 a.m.

A year or so ago I downgraded my cable to channels 2-29. Since then channels 11 and 14 have been dropped (with 24 added) Will Fox UP be broadcasted on one of those channels? Or do I lose a fox channel? I liked having 2 stations for football season because the Packers and the Lions were both on. If I am losing a channel I should receive a discount on my bill. It is getting ridiculous how expensive cable is but yet we are getting less and less bang for our buck. It is like everyone is trying to force you to upgrade just to receive the simplest shows. Remember when Monday night football was free?!?! What cable companies do is criminal for what they charge. The 12 month discount rate should be the standard rate. I wish some of those downstate companies would expand up here. A little competition would do everyone some good and break the Charter monopoly. They know they are the only cable show in town so they get away with murder.

T. Phelps

Posted by S W, Houghton County - Monday, September 07, 2009 at 6:34 p.m.

Where did I mention Limbaugh's name? I didn't.
Where did I say ANYTHING about the bible? I didn't
Where did I say ANYTHING about wanting Obama to fail?
I didn't

What I was pointing out was fact. The left in this country was OK with Dan Rather making up stories on Bush. The left media (MSNBC) recently edited a video of a black man, to the point you couldn't see his race, and were talking about right wing extremists. No outrage from the left there either.

BUT, when the right points out that Van Jones is a self proclaimed Communist Radical (his words), or that the FCC guy supports Chavez's revolution (his words), the left goes bonkers and starts calling people racists, right wing extremists, terrorists, nazi's etc.

You provided a prime example. I pointed out FACTS and you went nuts....Thanks for making my point!!!

Oh by the way, I think drug laws should be eliminated, there should be no federal law on abortion, or no federal law defining marriage....are those right wing, bible thumping values?

Ratings Booster

Posted by Youpurr inWA, Seattle - Monday, September 07, 2009 at 11:39 a.m.

Now that With Luck U-C has teamed up with Fox, I m guessing their ratings have plummeted and now need a fast ratings booster.:) Listening to "rants" will defiantly inject some humor into the TV6 "lineup"!

EX SENATOR BUYS FOREIGN

Ex senator FRIST of TENNESEE,took advantage of the CLUNKER PROGRAM and traded his CHEVY for a TOYOTA.He is against health care also, so why should he support AMERICAN INDUSTRY...

S.W. of Houghton Co. is a prime example!

Posted by T. Phelps, Houghton - Sunday, September 06, 2009 at 3:29 p.m.

The fear mongers and talk radio hate pundits who are swollen with venom toward anyone that they consider left of Limbaugh are a treasonous bunch of fascist wannabes. The zealots who preach devisveness and hate are like a noxious canker to our democratic society!. The radical right-wing loves to parade the flag and Bible but the essence of their beliefs are counter to Christian teachings or American values. Those who wish Obama to fail need to pack up and move their wretched lives to North Korea or a similar such haven for despots !

Drunk Driving Crackdown

Posted by Jack Sampson, U.P. - Sunday, September 06, 2009 at 12:56 p.m.

The Daily Mining Gazette had a front page story about the MSP was going to be looking for drunk drivers this weekend. The Calumet post didn't even have a car out Friday night. What a joke. Our governor has cut troopers to the point you rarley see them out. The milage restrictions are a joke. Our governor needs to cut welfare and restore the troopers and open up the prisions she closed. Welfare was never meant for people to live off of their entire life. Our state government officials need to wake up. Cut welfare and put a cap on it. Try three years then you are done collecting it for the rest of your life. Welfare accounts for over 30% of the state general fund. What a waste. Our governor was right when she said during the last election that in five years we would be blown away. She should resign and go back to Canada where she belongs.

Just a question

Posted by Duane Boda, Ishpeming - Saturday, September 05, 2009 at 9:55 p.m.

I'd like to know if the new Fox station

plans on broadcasting in High Definition

soon? Its Ok now but why not present the

station as its meant to be? Do it right!

I gotta laugh

Posted by S W, Houghton County - Saturday, September 05, 2009 at 6:18 p.m.

I've got to laugh at all the socialists who whine and complain about FOX News. Sure, having Dan Rather on CBS make up stories about President Bush is OK, as well as MSNBC recently editing a video recently to fit their agenda (FYI they were talking about white extremists, and edited a video so you couldn't see a guys race...turned out..he was black), that's OK as well I guess.

But if you point out that President Obama's "Green Jobs Czar" is a SELF PROCLAIMED "communist radical", that his "FCC Diversity" czar..or whatever he calls him, wants to shut down conservative talk radio, or the fact that he supports Hugo Chavez's revolution (he said it himself), well, I guess that makes you a right wing extremist?

Why political?

Posted by Skilly Kuzdamier, Marquette - Saturday, September 05, 2009 at 11:29 a.m.

Why does this have to be a political platform...you could rant about idiodic warning labels, impossible to open packaging, your wifes cooking. I see a chance to rant about everyday things... that could really be pretty humorous.

We need a 2010 budget for Michigan!

Posted by U.P. Conservative, U.P. - Saturday, September 05, 2009 at 11:12 a.m.

What really bothers me is the lack of representation of the U.P., in Lansing from Representative Lindberg and Senator Prusi. They fail effectively to let us know what they are doing in Lansing to fight for us here in the U.P. We are hurting up here too, and even what is more sad, recently it took a vote in Lansing from the Michigan House and Senate to include the U.P., on the official map of Michigan for text books. What is going on with this? Michigan is on the brink of another government shut down in a few short weeks, and the Michigan Democrats (House, Senate and Governor) has failed to even provide a budget for the public to see or to debate. We in Michigan are suffering with the nations highest unemployment rate, the biggest loss of jobs, and now even more devastating is the many many Michiganders who have exhausted the unemployment benefits. Michigan at one time was the manufacturing leader in our great country, now we have a Govenor panhandling for stimulus money from other states who refused the stimulus money. We need solid leadership, a solid plan to recover from this economic mess, and we need a 2010 budget to prevent even more damage to our great state. Maybe term limits is not so bad after all. What would Jacobetti do?

What a relief!

Whatever, Dorks

Posted by Dave Guizzetti, Chocolay Township - Saturday, September 05, 2009 at 1:00 a.m.

I can guarantee that ALL of you who regularly post here, including the dorks complaining about the daily rant, will the first ones to dial your hot little fingers off to leave your "rant."

The hypocricy in here is so deep! I love the idea, and I'm not afraid to say it. I can't wait to hear these rants. I'm actually interested in what local people have to say (complain) about.

You know what really grinds my gears...

Posted by KM V, Marquette - Friday, September 04, 2009 at 5:28 p.m.

I wonder how many of these rants will actually be intelligent? And people, please don't confuse local Fox stations with the national Fox news. Ranting about their "extreme right-wing...Propaganda" makes you sound wayyyy crazier than them. I can enjoy some Fox news, and I am in no way conservative. YOU the viewer needs to be the objective party, and not take every newscast at face value.

Not another chance to share a point of view

Posted by citizen x, delta county - Friday, September 04, 2009 at 4:36 p.m.

Oh no!!!! People might debate and share points of view. It isnt so bad if everyone agrees, but when people disagree it leads to debate and maybe some arguing. How could this be good? Last thing we need is people with differing viewpoints being allowed to say anything negative...... Hope the sarcasm showed through there. You people who think debate is a bad idea are idiots. Without debate where would this world be? A lot of you folks think it is a good idea to just follow along, as long as you dont have to question anything at any time. Without questions the doors are open for one person or group to take advantage of another. It is silly to think that questioning something is somehow going against the grain. People should be happy that things are still open for debate in this country. Without debate, we are nothing but drones. And about the thoughts that people dont use their real names. How many people use a fake name that is just a common name? I see a lot of names like "Bob G." and "Susie C", should we believe that it is a Bob or a Susie? Why would anyone want to know who someone really is? ... X

entertainment?

Posted by Steve S, Gladstone - Friday, September 04, 2009 at 3:42 p.m.

Sounds like another opportunity for people to make inflammatory statements anonymously, which sounds more like entertainment than news.

I think it's a wonderful Idea :)

Posted by Christine P, Marquette - Thursday, September 03, 2009 at 8:03 p.m.

As long as people us it the right way. I wish I got that channel... I'm only getting the annalog channel 7 so.. I hope it goes well for those of you who can watch. To those of you who complain all the time it should be a real release for you... as long as you can keep it clean and not attack specific persons, like people you don't get along with on this site. Everyone has got an opinion they are entitled to it and I'm really glad that there is another outlet to share it.

Title says it all. Besides you guys are confusing Fox with FoxNews. The local Fox stations aren't that bad, if you ever watch an episodes of Family Guy (which is a Fox show when not watching it in syndication), you'll know their views are polar opposite of those on FoxNews.

I just hope TV6 put the hammer down on Charter to move it off of the digital tier, I keep forgetting it's up there and would rather watch a local Fox station.

Great, another outlet

Posted by C L, Negaunee - Wednesday, September 02, 2009 at 9:34 p.m.

This is exactly what we need, another outlet for people to use to voice their opinion on anything they feel is important. The problem with this is the people who use things like this have no idea what they are talking about. They get fired up because they watched the latest Glenn Beck show and now want to tell everyone why the government sucks. Good job TV6, or Fox, or whoever you are, good job on giving these morons another place to shoot their mouths off.

Fox UP

FOX has a lout of good programing including sports.
Thanks WLUC TV 6.
Right now I get it on my TV antenna but when they put FOX on Dish Network like they say they will I will start getting it off of Dish Network.

seems that you didn't completely blow off TV 6 since you're still on their website. must have missed that little right wing logo on the top there. can live without them? hmmm can you?

just like to complain? maybe you should just go to your barber shop instead of air your issues on TV 6's website.

Wont be able to

Posted by Cant watch, Ishpeming - Wednesday, September 02, 2009 at 4:01 p.m.

Would be nice, but not ALL of us have the magic box, to be able to watch channels in 3 digits. Maybe someday, they (our beloved and ONLY CABLE PROVIDER)will put it lower in the band, so most of us can see it, and not charge us "another" $5 or more per month to do it.

FOX UP news lowers the bar even more!

Posted by W B, Keweenaw Bay - Wednesday, September 02, 2009 at 3:51 p.m.

Fox Network is nothing but a venue for the extreme right-wing to have airtime and spew their usual venom of mis-truths and propaganda! I refuase to watch the channel or patronize those companies that advertize on the station. I don't know what connection TV 6 has with this network but after the digital changeover I found that omitting WLUC from my nightly viewing routine wasn't to hard after all. If I want to listen to the locals rant all I have to do is visit the barbershop!
