HOUGHTON -- It doesn't take much to make some folks happy...just 500 feet of bananas, ice cream and chocolate sauce.

Preparations for the massive sundae began early Wednesday morning, but it took Michigan Tech students mere minutes to eat the whole thing.

Complete with pineapple, whipped cream and lots of cherries on top, the annual banana split event is a highlight of orientation week.

Afterward, most students stuck around to dance, play Frisbee, or just hang out with friends.

Classes at Tech begin on Monday.
