LITTLE LAKE -- Playing games, meeting new friends, and singing songs is what it's all about at this summer camp.

Campers ranging in age from five to fourteen arrived Sunday afternoon and will be staying until Friday.  While many of the kids here have come before, others were easily convinced to try it out.

"Well all my friends said it was really fun and I wanted to, like, hang out with my friends and they went, so I started going," said Kalysta Smith of Marquette.

The kids spend their afternoons swimming, kayaking, taking nature hikes and doing arts and crafts.  And with a schedule that jam packed, it's hard to pick a favorite.

"Playing all the new games, meeting all the counselors, and swimming.  That's really fun," said Delaney McLaughlin of Marquette.

But that's not what this camp is all about.

"I think for a lot of them it's their first time getting away from their parents and their houses.  It gives them good experience.  They get in front of the campfire and they get to be with kids their own age, meet some new kids and get outside and be active," said Counselor Geoff Holloway.

For many of the kids here, they're already looking forward to coming back next year.

"It's like getting a break from being at home, giving your parents a break, too, meeting new people, and having fun," said Addison Wasey of Marquette.

Space is still available in the next session of the camp which starts on August 9.  To register, contact the Marquette County YMCA at (906) 227-9622.
