MARQUETTE -- In less than a month, voters in Marquette Township will be deciding whether or not to pass a bond that would pay 60 percent of the project to upgrade the township's water system.

And township officials want voters to make an educated decision.

Thursday, those developing the plan were on hand at the Marquette Township Hall to answer questions.

Two questions are still being asked:  Will the new system cause other wells to go dry and will all township residents be forced to pay for the $5.3 million project?

The answer to both, officials say, is no.

"The only people that are going to have to pay for the project are water customers, and even if a water main is available to your property, there is no requirement to hook-up; and even if you are hooked up to a public main, you can disconnect," said Kirk Page of the Marquette Township Public Works.

Officials also stressed voters will not be deciding whether or not to go forward with the water project, but rather to pass a bond for funding of the project.

The township could still move forward with alternative funding.
