Three women charged with 1970s Michigan escapes.
DETROIT, MICHIGAN -- Prosecutors have filed charges against two women who escaped from a Michigan prison in the 1970s. A third woman, Tamiko Smith, also has been charged. She was a state inmate getting medical care when she escaped from a Detroit hospital in 1972.
The Wayne County prosecutor's office says Smith, Rebecca Hatcher and Barbara Corley will appear for arraignment Thursday in 35th District Court in Plymouth. The maximum penalty is five years in prison.
The three women were captured in August. Smith was found in Detroit, Hatcher was living in Camden, Tenn., and Corley was living in Piedmont, S.C.
All had been inmates at the old Detroit House of Corrections.
Hatcher's lawyer, Mark Nortley, hopes she doesn't get additional prison time for the escape. The attorneys for Smith and Corley were not immediately known.
