MARQUETTE -- State Senator Roger Khan visited Marquette on Monday.

Senator Khan was at Northern Michigan University where he met with students to discuss tuition hikes. As chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Khan says the state is currently putting together next year's budget which directly impacts the amount of money universities will receive.

"When you talk to our young people one of the first things that they say is that it's so expensive to go to school," said Sen. Khan. "Why is that? The reason why it's expensive is because so much money is getting sucked up in other areas, specifically entitlement. If we want our kids to have a future, we need to fix the debt."

Khan says the best way to fix the debt is for voters to stay informed and stress to their elected officials the importance of working together.
