LANSING -- Two newly elected state representatives from Upper Michigan were sworn into office in Lansing Wednesday.  Former Marquette Mayor John Kivela took the oath of office.

The Democrat will represent the 109th District.  Kivela said he's ready to pick up where former Representative Steve Lindberg left off, advocating for middle-class families, senior citizens and children.

Democrat Scott Dianda of Calumet was also sworn into office.  He will represent the 110th District.  Dianda said one of his goals is to restore funding to the school aid fund.

A total of 28 new lawmakers joined the Republican controlled state legislature.
