MARQUETTE -- Michigan's Republican Party elected new delegates this past weekend.  At a political convention in Lansing, seven new delegates were chosen to represent the 1st District.

Among those elected are Delta County's Carol Kolinsky of U.P. Ophthalmology, and former Escanaba Mayor Judy Schwalbach.  Marquette delegate Pete Mackin spoke about what this change could mean to the Michigan political climate.

"This weekend, grassroots constitutionally-minded Republicans moved the Michigan GOP to the right, and now I think there are a lot of people nervous about what we're going to do, and I think all we're going to do is promote principles that have made our Republican party great over the years," said GOP delegate Pete Mackin.

The next step for the delegates will be assisting in local elections across Michigan. In August, the delegates will attend the Republican National Convention in Tampa Bay.
