The Escanaba City Council voted Friday to withdraw its request to the Delta County Board for a countywide library millage

ESCANABA -- The Escanaba City Council voted Friday to withdraw its request to the Delta County Board for a countywide library millage.

For the past year, the Escanaba Library and the Gladstone Public School Library have been working together on a funding proposal with the county. It would fund library operations with three-tenths of a mil for five years throughout the county.

Escanaba Public Library Director, Carolyn Stacey, said it's back to the drawing board.

"Well, you know, we're going into a budget cycle with the City Council, so we'll be looking at all those things, and there may be some reductions in service while we work toward finding a way to keep our programs going," said Stacey.

Stacey said one of the primary benefits would have been that anyone could use any public library in the county without a user fee.
