HOUGHTON -- Two southern artists who plan to freeze a Chevy Nova in front of the library at Michigan Tech, started pouring the ice base on Tuesday.

Sue Wrbican from George Madison University and Mary Carothers from the University of Louisville say the Nova was one of the last cars built in the late '70s, before fuel efficiency was considered.

The shop class from Hancock High School built a form they'll pour water into, forming a giant ice cube around the car.

The women like to involve the community in their artwork, and the Hancock students will freeze a few inches each day.  They hope to be finished in time for Winter Carnival.

"We're going to keep on putting layers of ice, water, and it's going to keep on building up. And we're going to keep on moving the form up until it's built," stated Blake Erickson of Hancock High School.

Once the ice is 18 inches thick, the artists plan to lower the Nova onto it.

I think...

I think I understand what's going on, it's just worded wrong in the article.

Does anyone else know what the end of the article says without having to guess?

Who writes these articles? I can hardly understand what's being said about what. Come on now, I'm in eleventh grade English and I know how to construct sentences that are understandable. The end of this article is a mess.

Nova Rules.....

Is the Nova sitting on top of the ice form ... or inside the form.??????

At the end of the article it sounds like it will be on top. Maybe I am just having a senior moment...???

Gee...I wonder...
Do they get taxpayer money through "Art Grants"
to do this?

This Nova wasn't quite classic!

Folks, I know this car pretty well. It ain't even like a 350 or an SS or even a Rally...rusty floors, quarters and trunk, an interior that looks like a wildcat was let loose in. Not too mention the all too undesirable 231 V6 in the place of the slightly less desirable old straight six.

Cry when some jerk ends up with it just to snatch the subframe for his ZZ Top Eliminator clone.

Frozen Nova

What a waste. Not very creative thinking, either.

Use a different car

There are fewer and fewer Chevrolet Novas every day. Don't ruin another one. Use a foreign car.

So this is what they teach the kids now. No wonder they can't pass tests. Maybe the teachers should go back to teaching reading and writing.

Why are you worried about it

Posted by who cares, Hancock - Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at 5:58 p.m.

Why dont you people go and buy your own Chevy Nova instead of worrying what someone else is going to do to theirs, maybe they would let you climb in it before they start freezing it, now theres a thought.

WHAT A WASTE

WHY WAS AN AMERICAN CLASSIC, THERE IS MORE STEEL ON THAT RIDE THAN 6 GM CARS NOW. THEY SHOULD FREEZE FOR THAT ACT. RWC

What a waste..

I'll 3rd that!

Why didn't they take a worthless Nova - like a mid-80's Nova - also known as a Toyota and freeze it? Oh yeah those were so junky there probably aren't any more around.

Why?

If people want to see a frozen car, why don't they just look outside any given morning in January?
