IRON MOUNTAIN -- It's been a sloppy few days for local ski hills. However, staff at Pine Mountain Resort in Iron Mountain say they've been able to combat Mother Nature with technology.
They groomed the hill for a skiing competition Thursday afternoon.
Teams from five high schools across the Upper Peninsula skied and snowboarded down the mountain. Although the ice was still in the picture, the snow was fluffy.
Rick Gregorio, General Manager of Pine Mountain stated, "We're able to till the snow, just like you would do your garden...taking hard dirt and making it fluffy and nice for planting things. We can do exactly the same thing with our snow; in fact that's what we did all last night."
Resort staff hope temperatures will drop low enough to begin making snow again this weekend.
