MARQUETTE -- The sound of music was in the air Friday afternoon at NMU.

The first-ever chamber music festival took place for students across the Upper Peninsula to improve their skills. Seventy-four students from the seventh grade level and up participated in a day of lessons and performing.  Select students were chosen to perform in an honors recital and everyone was able to win prizes.  Students and instructors feel the event was a great way to learn.

"Lots of things--bow hold, positioning, posture, how to hold your instrument the right way; that's really helped," described Bothwell Middle School violinist Gabe Clement.

"All the characteristics an employer would want in their employee is developed by an experience such as this," said coordinator, Janis Peterson.

Organizers hope to hold another festival next spring.
