IRON MOUNTAIN -- With 80 years of music experience between the duo, Tunesmith is no stranger to music.  The band plays a unique blend of folk rock including plenty of original tunes.

"We started out with just original music because Robin kept telling me this stuff is strong enough to carry us,” said singer, guitarist, and writer, Jeff Cowell.  “I wasn’t sure then my wife said, 'You guys better play some cover tunes.'"

Cowell has been writing and playing music most of his life which was a big draw for drummer, Robin Tchokreff.

"We get together one night.  I had never met Jeff, never heard him sing, never heard him talk to me,” said Tchokreff.  “We sat down in the studio, and as soon as he starts singing and playing, I was sold.  I said this guy's got something here."

After writing hundreds of songs over four decades, Cowell is ready to begin performing again and is glad to have Tchokreff along for the ride.

"My catalogue has so much.  I've covered a lot and a lot of ideas and things,” Cowell said.  “At this point, I'm not really focusing on the writing; I'm trying to get the performance thing going again."

If you want to catch Tunesmith, they will be playing this Friday night at the Junction in Kingsford and Saturday at Blackstone Pizza in Iron Mountain.
