DICKINSON COUNTY -- One of two war memorials in front of the Dickinson County Courthouse is getting a new location.
The smaller war memorial on the south end of the courthouse will be moved to the Iron Mountain Veteran Affairs Medical Center. Several veterans expressed concerns that the memorial is difficult to see and largely forgotten.
The VA is renovating a portion of the main entrance and plans on including the memorial. The new location will give it more exposure which many people feel is needed.
"We need to recognize our veterans for what they have done, what they mean for our freedom, and what they mean for us Americans. They need all the exposure we can give them because there's a lot of times, I believe, that the veterans finish last," said Chuck Lantz, Office of VA, Dickinson County.
Lantz said he is hopeful the memorial will be moved by Veterans Day this November.
The decision to move the memorial was unanimously passed Monday by the Dickinson County board.
