MARQUETTE -- Wednesday, the Marquette City Commission held a work session to get a look at the possible 2010-2011 fiscal year budget. This was the first of four work sessions where the City Commission and staff will draft the budget.
As stated by the City Charter, a final budget must be adopted by the second Sunday in April.
The largest items that made the list are the McClellan extension and the Lakeshore Boulevard reconstruction.
The city hopes to complete all the projects while borrowing less.
"The last couple of years, the city has probably done eight to ten million dollars in bonding. This year I think we're going to take a step back and maybe do a little less, but it's still critical that we address the city's infrastructure needs because they're going to have to be addressed sometime in the future; and so if we address a bit at a time in accordance that we'll be much better off in the future," said Robert Niemi, Marquette City Commission.
The commission also gave the go-ahead to make Tourist Park and the city's three concession stands enterprise funds so they would be set apart from the normal city budget.
